Garmin have launched a new premium ultrawide panoramic format plotter, the GPSMAP® 1553xsv.
Garmin say:
Offering a sleek aesthetic in an ultrawide edge-to-edge glass format, this advanced 15-inch chartplotter clearly expands your perspective at the helm. It is 74% wider and boasts more pixels than a standard 9-inch chartplotter, providing enhanced viewing clarity.
“We are excited to add an ultrawide display option to our popular GPSMAP x3 chartplotter series that offers boaters and anglers a more expansive, immersive field of view. Coupled with its easy-to-use functionality, built-in mapping and superior sonar capabilities, the GPSMAP 15×3 delivers an incredible experience at the helm.”

This MFD will offer end-users more choice in cockpit layout and is a welcome addition to their range. I imagine that all major manufacturers will introduce similar aspect ratio displays, joining Garmin and Simrad, who already have the NSX Ultrawide 12″ and 15″ models in their lineup.
